What would you think about a job where you can earn money while you learn?

Yes, that’s right. With an apprenticeship, you can start earning money right after high school while you learn a skilled trade. Apprenticeship programs let you continue your education and earn money at the same time, while you learn a skilled trade from a master craftsman.

You can get on-the-job training through an apprenticeship and get a running start to high pay, a great future, and a career you’ll love!

So, what’s an apprenticeship? How can you find one? What do you have to do to prepare? And how do you know if an apprenticeship is right for you.

An apprenticeship is two different things:

It’s a job! But it’s also school.

Mostly, though, it’s a great opportunity! An apprenticeship is a good way to prepare yourself for the future with on-the-job training in a highly skilled career.

An apprenticeship is a paid job. Someone who is new to the field (the apprentice) learns the skills needed for the job. Apprentices are trained by master craftsmen, who are experts in their field. They share their skills and knowledge to help the apprentice become an expert too.

An apprenticeship is also a school. Apprenticeships include classroom lessons to make sure the apprentice masters all aspects of the job.

Apprenticeship in the Construction Trades

Have you always wanted to build things? Would you like a career in the construction industry? You can apprentice to learn to be a plumber, pipefitter, carpenter, electrician, or many other careers. Check out the TRADE LOCATOR for more information about the apprenticeship opportunities available to you.

Young people have been exploring careers through apprenticeships for hundreds of years. Apprenticeships are a time-tested way to learn a skilled trade.

Why should you join an apprenticeship program?

A chance to be your best!  When you start an apprenticeship, you’ll learn a skilled trade from a master craftsman. But no matter which trade you choose, an apprenticeship will let you work with someone who’s an expert and who will help you learn to be an expert too. You’ll learn to do work you love, and you’ll have the chance to be your best. That will give you great job opportunities for the future – everyone wants to hire the best!

A skill you can use! Jobs that start with an apprenticeship are highly skilled, and they are in high demand. After all, not everyone can do one of these jobs! It takes specialized training, which you’ll gain through your apprenticeship. Once you’ve completed the apprenticeship, you’ll have credentials that will be valued anywhere you go.

A paycheck while you learn! Usually, people don’t get paid to learn something new! But as an apprentice, you’ll learn a whole new skill and get paid while you learn. Apprenticeships combine book learning with on-the-job training. At the end of the apprenticeship, you can keep your job and earn a higher salary as a skilled craftsman. Or, you can take your skills to a new job

Great opportunities and a secure future! If you complete an apprenticeship, you’ll have the skills and job experience to earn higher wages and get better opportunities than people who have entered your field without an apprenticeship.
